Michael Glynn – Founder and Principal

Founder and Principal of Glynn Construction, Michael Glynn, learned his craft as a young boy in his native Ireland. Several members of his extended family were in the construction business, and Michael’s summers were spent working alongside them. It wasn’t long before he realized that he had found his lifelong passion.

Michael moved to Boston, MA in 1991 and spent four years refining his skills while learning the art of restoration on Victorian, Edwardian, Colonial, Tudor, and French Normandy-style houses. Michael settled in San Francisco in 1995 and expanded his knowledge and ability as a superintendent with a well-known Bay Area Engineering company. He worked on several of the Bay Area’s most prestigious public retrofit and redevelopment projects such as San Francisco City Hall, Moscone Centre, and the SFO International Terminal.

This experience provided Michael with a solid foundation in groundwork and engineering and he went on to establish his own company, Kingdom Pipelines, in 1997. His organization played key roles in many large developments such as AT&T Park, the BART extension, Kaiser Vallejo & Kaiser San Francisco Medical Centers, as well as UCSF and San Jose City College expansions.

Michael sold Kingdom Pipelines in 2003 to move into the residential construction and retrofit market. He incorporated Michael Glynn Construction that same year and has since completed the construction of several custom homes ranging in size from a 600 square foot in-law unit to a 4,000 square foot Mediterranean-style hillside home, as well as numerous seismic upgrade and major renovation projects.

Michael’s expertise in restoration and renovation, combined with his talent and knowledge in groundwork and engineering, make for a unique and indispensable skill set for any homeowner considering new construction or a major remodel and/or retrofit. Michael holds both California General Engineering Contractor (“A”) and General Building Contractor (“B) licenses.

Glynn Construction Teamwork

We aim to provide a full-service commitment to our customers, from home or space design, to demolition, construction, and interior design. Many of our tradespeople have been working together for over a decade and, as such, we have built a very skilled, knowledgeable, and efficient team. This helps us to ensure that each customer’s project will run smoothly, on budget, and on schedule.

We have partnered with outstanding teams of architects and designers – each one experienced in different styles –and will work in concert with them to ensure that your vision and preferences are interpreted and precisely reflected in your finished product. Many of our customers already have completed architectural plans and a preferred designer in mind; our end result is the same in either case: a high-quality, customized project that exceeds our clients’ expectations.

The Glynn Construction Advantage

aboutus3.jpg

Traditionally, a General Building Contractor holding a Contractor “B” license would be solely responsible for a new home construction or major remodeling project. However, with an increasing emphasis on building or retrofitting structures to withstand moderate or strong earthquakes in the Bay Area, home building has developed new layers of complexity, well beyond the scope of a General Building Contractor’s expertise and licensing. Soil properties and seismic considerations must be factored into your building/remodeling plans in order to maintain structural integrity and protect your investment in your home when an earthquake occurs. Foundation work, excavation, grading, trenching, land leveling, drainage adaptation, utility connections, and street and road work all require the services of a General Engineering Contractor holding a Contractor “A” license in addition to the General Building Contractor you hire to build or remodel your home. Any seismic upgrade work also requires the services of a General Engineering Contractor.

Why you should choose MG.

Michael Glynn, principal at MG Construction, holds both A and B-type contractor licenses and has over 20 years of experience in building and engineering contracting.

How can this benefit you and your project?

  • It provides you with a turnkey solution for your project, where one contractor carefully orchestrates all the steps of a new construction or remodel where any ground- or foundation-work may also be required,

  • It allows for greater control over the schedule of your project as there is no delay in securing necessary machinery and skills, and

  • It mitigates the risk of the overall project by ensuring that the proper permits are in place and that greater control is maintained by subcontracting fewer steps. This results in an efficiently managed and coordinated project.
